I’ve really started to realize how much of an amazing
influence my parents have had on me. I really don’t tend to question anything
they say anymore, and when they speak or give me advice I often perceive it as
law. It’s funny, because it was never that way when I was younger. That’s just
adolescence though. Being a testy teen can take it’s toll on a parent-child
relationship. However, as I’ve matured and gotten older I’ve started to see
myself as a future father and husband, and I’ve started to see why things have
gone the way they did. As I acquaint myself with more families, and with
parents of some of my friends, I’ve seen how my parents really did an ideal
job! There has never been too much disfunctionality in my family, there hasn’t
yet been a “rogue” kid, or any type of real big problem. Of course we have our
flaws as individuals, and of course we have had our ups and downs, but that’s
life. And my parents have been exceptional in making all of their children feel
loved and supported. My only hope is that I can carry that into my family, and
figure out away to help my children face the challenges that they will
encounter in our modern world. It’s scary, but I think I have enough resources
to get the job done well.
